Job Description:

MinnPost, a successful nonprofit digital newsroom based in the Twin Cities, is hiring a community health reporting fellow.

This is a year-long, full-time position that will cover public health and health care from a community perspective. Reporting will include uncovering creative solutions to longstanding health challenges, including disparities in outcomes.The reporting fellow will engage with Minnesota communities on their health information needs and pursue reporting to fill information gaps.They will address health misinformation with accessible, explanatory journalism. 

You can see examples here of the coverage produced by previous fellows since 2022, and we're interested in hearing your ideas about how you would approach the position. The fellow will be a member of the metro team but will regularly collaborate with MinnPost’s audience team to develop digital and multimedia skills for engaging audiences. 

Our ideal candidate is an early career journalist who is eager to learn and help explain complex issues and solutions to our readers. You are great at connecting with people in person and are passionate about using journalism as a tool to serve communities that have historically been marginalized. Our reporters at MinnPost strive to serve as trusted guides on the issues affecting people across the state. For this role, that means adding context, nuance and conversation to community health issues in the news and equipping people to influence decisionmaking in their communities. 


Job Requirements:

The position is based in Minneapolis and will primarily focus on reporting in and around the Twin Cities, though there is likely to be some reporting in Greater Minnesota.

The fellowship is slated to run from January–December of 2026. The fellow will be a member of MinnPost staff with a full-time salary and benefits. This is covered by collective bargaining agreement with TNG-CWA 37002, the Minnesota Newspaper & Communications Guild.

The minimum starting salary is $56,228.
