Objective
Hello there, and welcome to my AAJA page! My name is Kelly Kimball, and I am a bilingual multimedia journalist based in New York, NY, who is highly adept at illuminating the consequential ripples of major news events. My main focus is international human-interest pieces covering a broad range of subject matter.
While at FP, I have reported on Afghanistan’s myriad devolving infrastructures following the August 2021 withdrawal of U.S. troops from Kabul, the impact of Lebanon’s explosion at the Port of Beirut on the country’s refugee population, Japan's pivot to nuclear power amid political turmoil, and the impact of climate change on the tradition of Arctic mushing in Anchorage, Alaska.
I have a Master's in Journalism & Digital Storytelling from American University and have been nominated for the American Society of Magazine Editors NEXT award for journalists under 30.
I was previously a digital producer for American University and videographer for the World Bank. While there, I freelanced with WAMU’s DCist, where I reported on the impact of homophobic United Methodist laws on LGBTQ ministers, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on queer performers in Washington, DC, and gender noncomforming performance artists redefining gender expression.
