I was a finalist for Best Technology Reporting in the Chicago Headline Club’s Peter Lisagor Awards in 2013.

Basecamp is a company that makes group collaboration and email software. It is headquartered in Chicago, IL but is a remote company with a distributed team spread primarily across North America and Europe. I launched The Distance (thedistance.com), a branded online publication featuring written profiles of long-running independent businesses. Individual stories were re-published in the Chicago Tribune, Quartz, and Gizmodo. I collaborated with two freelance editors, a designer, an illustrator, a photographer, and a video producer. In 2015, I transitioned The Distance to a narrative podcast. I interviewed business owners in the field, scripted, hosted, wrote episode descriptions, and transcribed episodes. The Distance was a finalist for Best Podcast and Best Podcast Single Episode in the Chicago Headline Club’s Peter Lisagor Awards in 2016.

Basecamp is a company that makes group collaboration and email software. It is headquartered in Chicago, IL but is a remote company with a distributed team spread primarily across North America and Europe. I pitched and launched Rework (rework.fm) as a branded podcast for Basecamp. The episode format varied between interviews and narrative. I generated and researched story ideas, booked and interviewed guests, scripted, edited, co-hosted, and wrote descriptions and show notes. I interviewed Basecamp’s co-founders and other employees. I also located, booked, and interviewed diverse sources on topics such as online privacy, workplace culture, Big Tech, small business, and entrepreneurship. Together with one other producer and co-host, I took the show from biweekly to weekly. Our audience numbers peaked around 100,000 monthly downloads in 2020.
