Leadership position in Journalism or journalism philanthropy focused on communities of color and arts and social justice issues. I have particular expertise reporting and writing about Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Arab American communities, as well as connecting local news to national news trends.
I am currently Portfolio Manager at The Pivot Fund, coaching independent hyperlocal ethnic media newsrooms in underresourced communities on editorial strategy and revenue strategy
I am president of Asian American Journalists Assn. Michigan chapter, supporting and celebrating local journalism, journalists, and journalism students.
I was a national Communities Correspondent, Dearborn/Detroit at PBS NewsHour, writing cross-platform about race, justice, immigration, and communities of color in Michigan. I occasionally appeared on the broadcast, created stories with Detroit PBS, and learned how to shoot video.
I was one of the first contributors hired for NBC Asian America, where I wrote about Asian, Asian American, and Native Hawaiian issues. I also helped curate the vertical, and I wrote nine of the top 20 articles published our first year. Many of my articles connected concerns of different communities so my articles were often cross-posted at NBCLatino, NBCBLK, and NBCOUT.
I was a contributing editor at IMDiversity.com Asian American Village, one of the first Asian American online magazines, leading the Midwest, Education, Arts and Culture, Parenting, Lifestyles, Chinese American, and Hawaii sections, for fifteen years.
I was also Lead Multicultural Contributor and columnist at AnnArbor.com where I wrote a weekly local column about race and cultures that was syndicated at New America Media, Chicago is the World, Pacific Citizen, and InCultureParent. It was one of three national columns written by Asian Americans at the time.
Experienced journalist and leader on Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Arab American issues; an academic and speaker on Asian American and Pacific Islander civil rights; and a nonprofit and small business leader with marketing and fundraising skills. The child of an engineer, I love seeking creative streamlined solutions.
