I worked as a reporter and editor at The Front, Western Washington University's online student newspaper, for just over one year. I fulfilled various roles, including reporting on the environment and local politics, copy editing, overseeing a small team as a desk editor and finally serving as editor-in-chief. Throughout my time at Western, I am honored to have transitioned from a reluctant new reporter adjusting to the fast-paced newsroom to a leader providing the mentorship that I relied on as a freshman. I also worked as a writing tutor at the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio at the campus library, a role that involved helping students improve their academic research and writing skills. I covered clean energy grants at the Methow Valley News in rural north central Washington and served as a public relations intern for the Salish Sea Institute at WWU, which helped ignite my passion for environmental science and policy journalism.
