As of right now, my main career goal is to become a political news producer in a large market like Washington, DC. I enjoy being a leader in broadcasting and writing news stories about hard-hitting topics. My passion for this is mainly to help uplift the voices of minority groups throughout the world. With the current political climate, I think there is a lot of misrepresentation in the media, and I would like to lead the charge in building an equal platform for these underrepresented groups. As an active member of the Asian American Journalism Association, I have the opportunity to connect with other journalists of color. I will continue to use this resource to learn more about underrepresented communities. I have started research on diversity in the media and I would like to continue to research these topics in my Honors Program research project in my senior year. My next step to reaching my desired career is gaining hands-on experience in my field of interest. Over the Summer of 2025, I've had the opportunity to intern in the production department with Nexstar Media Group at the Wood TV8 Station in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Other than that, I believe familiarizing myself with all the roles within broadcasting is important to help me produce a smooth show. Learning new roles is important for me to be the best producer or director I can be. I have already done a lot of these roles in the student-led shows at CMU, from jib and camera operation to producing and directing, and I will continue to lead others in these co-curricular activities. My plans for co-curricular activities next year include maintaining leadership roles in my current activities and teaching the next wave of leaders in the program as I prepare for graduation in the Spring of 2026. Through the classes I am taking in the Broadcast and Cinematic Arts and Political Science programs, I will also learn more about how the industry, equipment, and jobs work together. Specifically, I want to hone my political news writing skills to write a well-rounded, hard-hitting news story.
As a teaching assistant for a Producing and Directing course, I had the responsibility of teaching students the ins and outs of the control room. My knowledge of how the equipment and positions work together in a newscast can be a real asset to this office. I also developed strong writing and research skills in my time at Central Michigan University. With my work on CMU's daily newscast, I've written copy and unique stories for the broadcast setting. In this co-curricular program, I've held the role of producer, director, technical director, audio monitor, teleprompter, floor director, and anchor. I'm always willing and able to help fill in for any position in the studio or control room.
My role as a producer and director at Moore Hall Television, has taught me how to handle a fast-paced work environment while not neglecting attention to detail. I can make confident decisions in a moment of crisis because of my experience in live production. Last Fall, I was tasked with inputting live poll data of local election results into Flowics Graphics system for our Election Night Special. As the Music Director for Mountain 91.5 radio, I regularly use Adobe Audition to input songs into our ENCO and Music Master databases and create daily playlists.
