The size of the digital team across Washington, New York, LA and Toronto is more than doubling to 40 journalists. There will be more writers, editors and specialist reporters as well as new hubs focused on production, visual journalism and growing our audience.
The BBC wants to provide the best breaking news coverage of major events as well as more original reporting and innovative digital storytelling. Our readers want a richer global perspective on both US and international news.
We are seeking an innovative visual journalist who enjoys collaborating with others to join our news team in the US.

A senior visual journalist will develop creative solutions working collaboratively with other journalists and editors to enhance our digital coverage of North America for a global audience coming to our website (BBC.com/news) and app.
You will have the ability to translate complex ideas and sensitive topics into imaginative and compelling visual formats (graphics, maps, data journalism and other bespoke-format digital content) and will have a strong understanding of what makes visual design stand out from competitors.
You will be overseeing a designer, developer and data journalist and working closely with video journalists to produce animations and illustrations in digital friendly formats using Adobe Creative package such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Photoshop and Illustrator whilst maintaining professional journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality and fair dealing.
You will be the advocate for visual excellence as well as the user who pushes innovative design content solutions; operates in a fast-paced news environment, usually within tight timeframes.
You will produce ideas for data-driven stories and how they could be developed and visualised for multiple platforms while also using data and visual journalism tools and workflows to create excellent content, both editorially and technically.

The successful candidate must have:
Experience coordinating a small team of journalists with various design and developer skillsets
Significant experience of creating visual storytelling sequences using a range of different production techniques
A collaborative mindset and strong desire to establish productive workflows with various colleagues on the team
A commitment to delivering accurate and impartial journalism
