About the Position: The Communications Manager’s primary purpose is to produce high-quality content that engages university stakeholders and builds Mason brand recognition. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, with brilliant presentation and organizational skills and able to multitask and work well under pressure. The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing, coordinating and executing effective messaging and communication plans. The incumbent will oversee the creation of promotional and informative materials that are disseminated to Mason audiences.
The Communications Manager will oversee the development and the maintenance of the informational webpage that will serve as a digital press kit to external audiences (“About Mason”). This position will be responsible for identifying appropriate information for the webpage and will work across the university to ensure that the content is current and relevant. The Communications Manager will produce content that aligns with Mason’s brand and promotes and informs audiences of university-wide initiatives.
The position will report to the Assistant Vice President of Communications and will proactively create, assemble, and leverage information, content and messaging to create cohesive, consistent stories that will guide the university’s communication of high-level projects and priorities. The Communication Manager will be responsible for ensuring the consistent communication of talking points and background materials across all Office of University Branding platforms. The incumbent will aggregate information for the creation of substantive stories and multimedia series and will also produce content for senior leadership, including talking points, email messages, FAQs and other administrative communications.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education;
Demonstrated knowledge of communication practices and techniques;
Ability to multitask and work well under pressure;
Ability to consistently meet deadlines; and
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including being a team player capable of working collaboratively with colleagues and leadership.
Proven experience creating targeted content; and
Experience in higher education environment.
