Job Description

Corporate Communications is responsible for planning and implementing proactive communications on major initiatives; working to promote positive, accurate and fair media coverage of FINRA; and promoting an engaged and well-informed workforce, among other activities. The Manager, Internal Communications supports the Vice President of Internal Communications in efforts to support, engage, inspire and motivate FINRA employees through the creation and implementation of powerful, meaningful, and helpful communications programs.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Develops and executes corporate communications initiatives and messages to promote the company and its mission.
  • Serves as primary point of contact and manages discussions with clients; partners with business groups and recommends appropriate strategies and tactics based on business goals, client objectives and best communications practices.
  • Serve as senior writer and editor for speeches and talking points for CEO and other executives, including direct interaction with CEO and other senior leaders. Authors articles, blog posts, and other materials on behalf of/for senior leaders. Actively collaborates and cultivates relationships with senior executives.
  • Provides communications support for various corporate activities impacting investors, broker-dealers and various stakeholders.
  • Keeps abreast of industry, compliance and regulatory issues as well as communications trends to help ensure effectiveness of each project or campaign. 
  • Conducts independent research, content creation and editing, and production of finalized communications, which may include web pages, webcast/podcast scripts, speeches/talking points, articles and other forms of communication (e.g., social media, emails).
  • Manages select corporate communications projects, including development, research, writing, editing and proofreading. Adapts, as needed, materials for delivery in different media (print, electronic, broadcast).
  • Develops content calendars across channels to effectively manage and have oversite for the overall content storytelling. Develops questions and conducts interviews internal and external experts for story development. Proactively mines for stories that support overall communication and messaging strategy.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • B.S. or B.A. in journalism, English or related field, and minimum of six years of Internal communications experience, either in-house or through an agency, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the financial and/or securities industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent written communication and proofreading skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, and the ability to prioritize effectively, work multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/MS Office Suite applications (Word, PowerPoint, Sharepoint).
  • Ability to convey complex information in clear, engaging ways.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise careful judgment and discretion with respect to strategic and confidential material.
  • Familiarity with AP style desirable.
  • Experience working on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives and/or Employee Resource Groups (ERG) preferred.
